The kid's page is where you'll find information about programs and activities for children from newborns to tweens. We strive to provide a variety of activities to promote early literacy and support learning.

The Sturm Memorial Library Summer Library Program

Our Summer Library Program designed to engage all age groups in exploring new ideas, books, and activities. This program is free, and there are no fees for any of the events or activities.
Beginning June 7, 2021, you can start recording your reading and participate in the activities located in the Beanstack app or website.

How do I Start?

  • Download the mobile app, Beanstack Tracker, to your device. It’s available in the GooglePlay (Android) and App Store (iOS). (or visit https://manawalibrary.beanstack.org to sign up with a computer)
  • Search for your Library. (find a site)
  • Tap Sign up! (or Sign In if you already have an account)
  • Create an Account.
  • Add Readers.
  • Follow the prompts to complete registration.
  • Tap Discover at the bottom of the screen and register for Challenges.
  • Touch the + to log your reading and activities.
  • Track your Badges and see your Stats.

You will automatically be directed to the appropriate activities based on the reader's age.  There are four age groups: 0-6, 7-11, 12-17, and 18+.
If you wish to be contacted about prizes and drawings, be sure to include an email address or telephone number as part of your Beanstack profile.
All prizes must be picked up in person at 130 N. Bridge Street, Manawa, WI.

Special Summer Events

Stuffie Sleepover – Drop your favorite stuffed animal off at the Library by 5:30 p.m. June 17 for a Stuffie Sleepover. We will chaperone your pet and send it home with some special photographs from its mischievous night with the other stuffies.

Dinohunt with Milwaukee Public Museum – Join us on a trip back in time to the Mesozoic Era, where we’ll learn all about dinosaurs and the scientists who study them! June 22 2:00 p.m. via Zoom (Registration Required, pick up kit in advance)

Rodeo Royalty Meet & Greet – A Manawa tradtion! Meet the Rodeo Queen, Princess, and their horses. July 2 10:00 a.m. at the Library

Ice Cream Social with Wisconsin Workers 4-HJuly 2 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. (or until it's gone!) at the Library

Puppy Workshop – We'll share a story and then create our own adorable, super soft, stuffed puppies! July 20 4:00-4:45 p.m. via Zoom (Registration Required, pick up kit in advance)

Splashpad Storytime – Join us for stories in the park followed by some fun in the Splashpad! We'll bring the books, you bring a blanket or towel for comfy seating. 9:30 a.m. July 15 and 29 at Manawa Area Veterans Freedom Park.

Preschool Zoom Storytime 9:00 a.m. June 9, 16, 23, 30 and July 7, 14, 21, 28  (Visit the Library for supplies and Zoom invitation)

Porch Pickup Now Available

Porch Pickup is now available! Call 920-596-2252 to request materials from our library that you can pick up at a scheduled time. You can check out any materials the library has here in Manawa. Check the new materials listed below to see new books that might be available. We are so happy to be able to offer you this service!

Read Aloud 15 Minutes

15 minutes of reading aloud each day can change the face of education in this country. Learn more about this National Campaign.

  • Reading aloud is the single most important thing a parent or caregiver can do to help a child prepare for reading and learning.
  • Nationally, 37% of children arrive in kindergarten without the skills necessary to begin their learning journey.
  • If a child is not reading at grade level by the end of the first grade, then there is an 88% probability the child will not be reading at grade level by the end of the fourth grade.
  • Even in higher income households, nearly 40% of families do not read aloud every day.
  • More than half the children in this country 13 million children will not hear a bedtime story tonight.
